Kristijan Pančić Criss was born in 1974 in Subotica, Serbia, where he continues to live and create today. A trained toolmaker by profession, the precision and craftsmanship of his trade became the foundation of his artistic expression. Raised in a family of decorators, he inherited a keen sense of form, composition, and the beauty of handcrafted work.
His artistic journey did not begin in a studio, but in a workshop. While repairing motorcycles, guitars, clocks, and old machinery, he gradually began to see every metal component as a form with new possibilities. In discarded objects, he did not see waste - he saw stories waiting to be told.
Since 2010, he has created more than one thousand unique sculptures, crafted from metal, wood, plastic, and a wide variety of reclaimed materials. Every piece is one of a kind and impossible to replicate. Today, his works can be found in private collections around the world, including London, Vienna, Budapest, Paris, and many other cities.
The most recognizable subjects of his work are robots, motorcycles, bicycles, guitars, lamps, airplanes, and mechanical forms that blend industrial design, nostalgia, and imagination. His robots hold a special place within his oeuvre, ranging in size from just twenty centimeters to monumental figures nearly two meters tall.
Each possesses its own distinct personality, as though assembled from the memories of the many lives once lived by its individual parts. Kristijan creates in the quiet of his workshop in Subotica.
Music is an essential part of his creative process - he is also a guitarist - and rhythm often becomes the invisible foundation upon which his sculptures take shape. What others discard, he transforms into objects with a new purpose, a new form, and a new soul.
His work represents a unique fusion of master craftsmanship, artistic intuition, and profound respect for the materials he uses. Every sculpture stands as a testament to the idea that beauty does not have to be created from something new. Sometimes, it is born from what the world has forgotten.
Beauty doesn't need to be new. Sometimes, it is found in what the world has left behind.
Criss transforms discarded parts into mechanical forms that feel ready to roll again, carrying traces of their earlier lives into a new purpose.
